Description
This is our 3rd collaboration release with Dead Centre Brewing in Athlone. We’re beside the Bridge at the North of Lough Ree and Dead Centre’s brewpub is just beside the Bridge at the South end.
The cask used to finish this whiskey was previously used to age Dead Centre’s 4th Birthday seasonal special, a rich and robust Imperial Stout called F4LSE PROPHET
The Whiskey:
6 year old Single Malt from Great Northern Distillery, finished in a Dead Centre F4LSE PROPHET Imperial Stout cask and bottled at 43% ABV. Non chill-filtered and Natural Colour.
Maturation:
We sent a freshly emptied whiskey cask to Dead Centre Brewing in Athlone to barrel age their stout. Once the beer was matured, the cask was emptied and brought back to Lanesborough, where we filled it with 6-year-old, double distilled Single Malt Irish Whiskey from Great Northern Distillery, which had previously been matured in a first fill Bourbon Cask for 6 years. Lough Ree Distillery finished this whiskey in the beer cask for 11 weeks, prior to it being disgorged and cut to 43% ABV for bottling.
Nose: Dark Chocolate and fruity with plums and damsons.
Taste: Dark roast flavours of coffee and chocolate combine with “pint of stout” fruit flavours
Finish: Pleasantly prickly and spicy with intense dark chocolate.
Overall:
This single malt whiskey has rich and complex flavours of chocolate, coffee and dark fruit. Opens up beautifully with time in your glass and maybe a drop of water. One to sit with and enjoy, or maybe try it alongside a pint of stout.
