Sling Shot Gin Launch – what a night!

We are lost for words. The reaction to the launch of Sling Shot has exceeded our expectation in every way. We simply cannot get over the love and support shown to the team and the product. It has been an emotional rollercoaster at times in HQ this week, especially for our founders Mike, Peter & Sheila.

As with all businesses there are highs and lows, and we certainly experienced the climax this week. To see our friends, neighbours and strangers alike picking up a bottle of gin that we made here in Lanesborough certainly strikes a chord.

Every bottle produced in our distillery is labelled, bottled, sealed and packed by our team, even Peter joined in for a bit! It is genuinely a team effort; this week saw every department come together from bottling the gin to preparing for the launch.

Ye came out in force on Friday night, and although we did not get to speak to you all individually, we really appreciate the encouragement and value the continuing seal of approval. We hope you enjoyed the night as much as we did, and thank you to everyone who bought a bottle and supported Sling Shots inevitable national takeover!

For those who couldn’t make it, fear not we will be distributing our gin nationwide over the coming weeks and if you can’t wait that long, we are available to purchase from the Celtic Whiskey Shop website https://www.celticwhiskeyshop.com/Sling-Shot-Irish-Gin .

This is only the beginning of what already has been a long journey, but launching our gin, from our small distillery in our hometown made all the hard days seem easy! The Sling Shot brand is strong, original and contemporary; it reflects our values as a team and as a distillery and we look forward to seeing it on the shelves of pubs and retailers across the country!

Please remember to ask for Sling Shot in your local pub, off licence or supermarket and tag us in photos of you enjoying it!

Sling Shot Gin, what is in a name!

What a month is has been here at Lough Ree Distillery HQ! We only received our still on the 31st July and since then we have found our distiller, developed a great team and finalised our gin recipe! What more could we ask for?

We have decided it is time to share with all of our lovely supporters the name of our gin and the beautiful bottle we have. When we were deciding on the name and indeed the bottle we knew given the influx of gin to the market, that we had to be different, hopefully you like it!

To start off any product one of its most important features aside from its function is its name. We wanted something that was strong and individual, but it also had to have meaning and depth. The word Slingshot evokes thoughts of David & Goliath, while on the shores of Lough Ree we think of the demise of Queen Maeve, by a Slingshot from the Longford shore as she bathed at Inchcleraun (Quaker Island). Sling Shot creates a sense of strength, passion and determination, all qualities we strive for on a daily basis when producing our gin.

Here at Lough Ree Distillery, ‘Our Aim is True’, we strive to create the finest spirits and bring them to the world, from our hometown of Lanesborough. Our passion and dedication to do so reflect that of the tale of Queen Maeve.

We are holding our official launch on Friday 5th October in Lanesborough. We are so proud of how far we have already come and we are excited to see what the future holds for Lough Ree Distillery and our very first product, Sling Shot Gin. If you are interested in attending our launch please email info@lrd.ie for further details.

We would love for you to come on this journey with us and share in our growing history.

Finalised Gin Recipe!

Today was a momentous day at Lough Ree Distillery as we finalised our gin recipe. After weeks of trials and producing numerous distillates, we have settled on Batch #4! Julia, Claire and the entire production team are delighted with the end result.

Over the past couple of weeks, we have distilled many unusual botanicals, some worked, and others were mildly disastrous!! Claire’s personal favourite catastrophe was her attempt at distilling carrots!! You can be reassured in the knowledge that there is zero carrot content in our final gin!

When developing the recipe, we noted that it was important for our gin not only to be unique, but also to be diverse and have distinctive local character. Our final recipe compromises of four different distillates and seven botanicals in total. The first is our base gin, made up of a number of classical gin botanicals. We also distil citrus fruits, mint and our secret ingredient to be disclosed closer to our launch. The result is a fresh, bold gin with a full bodied, lingering finish. It’s a gem, if we say so ourselves!

To ensure we got it right, we tried our gin with a number of different garnishes and tonics, all kindly prepared by our spirits enthusiast, Julia. She paired our gin with three different tonics and each tonic characterised a different flavour in the gin.

Over the coming weeks you will see us preparing for the release of the gin, we have Claire strapped to the still so that we are ready to launch on October 5th! If you have any queries about our Production, Sales or Marketing please email info@lrd.ie

Thanks for the support,

Introduction to Production at Lough Ree Distillery

Production has started this week here at Lough Ree Distillery, the creative juices are flowing, and two integral parts of the operation have arrived, our still and our distiller!

Claire, our master of the still, hails from the Rebel County, and has brought great confidence and conviction to our production team. Claire started her journey in University College Cork, where she studied Food Science, but soon found her love for Irish Spirits and pursued her studies in brewing and distilling at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland. She had previously worked in Irish Distillers in Co Cork. This is Claire’s first time developing a Gin; she is working alongside Julia Nourney, an award winning spirit judge, writer and developer to produce Irelands finest Gin. I think we are in safe hands!

Our still is a bespoke copper pot still, developed by Mueller in Germany. It has a capacity to hold approx 150 Litres and has the ability to produce a distinctive spirit of high refinement and concentrated flavour. The flexible design of the still allows us to be creative and innovative in the production of not only our Gin but any future spirits created by Lough Ree Distillery. The ability to adapt and tailor our production means we can develop custom, small batch distillates. Julia, Claire and the team have had great fun experimenting with a wide range of traditional botanicals as well as unique local ingredients.

Keep your eyes peeled over the coming weeks as our Gin starts to take shape!
